Ambler petitions candidate appointment

 In News

The campaign for Stella Ambler, Simcoe-Grey MPP hopeful has launched a petition demanding that the PC Party of Ontario immediately reinstate the right of the membership of the local PC association to elect its candidate for the next Ontario election, and, as soon as possible, hold an open, public and democratic Nomination Convention for this riding, as required by the PC Party of Ontario Constitution.
To the surprise of local PC Party of Ontario members, it was announced June 3 that there would be no open, public and democratic nomination convention held for the riding of Simcoe-Grey but that instead, a candidate would be “appointed,” contrary to the principles of democracy and in violation of its own constitution, said Ambler.
Collingwood Mayor Brian Saunderson has been named candidate for the seat being vacated by outgoing MPP Jim Wilson.
“There’s time to fix this, to correct this injustice,” wrote Ambler to supporters. “Provincial Election Day is a full 11 months away. (Only three weeks are needed for a properly constituted nomination process.) I hope you’ll join me in demanding an open, public and democratic nomination vote here in Simcoe-Grey.”
The petition is posted at www.stellaambler.com/petition.
