Baseball league holds contest for new name, logo
Creemore Minor Baseball is inviting the entire community to participate in a Logo Design Contest as the team re-brands.
After dropping the team name due to a change in Clearview Township policy that prohibits the use of Indigenous themes or images within township sport facilities that are related to non-Indigenous sports organizations and teams, Creemore Minor Baseball is asking the community to weigh in on suggestions for a new nickname and logo.
League president Scott Weldon said Creemore players went without a nickname last year but the players would like to go into the upcoming season with a new name and logo so they are holding a contest, similar to the one held by Clearview Minor Hockey when it re-branded following amalgamation.
“I’m excited about it,” said Weldon. “I hope we get lots of submissions and I hope lots of kids get involved, even if they don’t play baseball.”
Creemore is hoping to field five or six teams this season, both local league and select, with new and returning players.
Contest submissions should include a new name: The Creemore… and a logo for that name. Submissions can be digital or hand drawn and must be submitted by Jan. 1.
Other specifications include: The nickname should be reflective of the team and/or community; The logo should not contain text other than “Creemore” or the nickname; The winning submission may be digitized or altered by CMBA to meet requirements; Logos may, or may not, include “Creemore” or the nickname; Artwork should be original. No copyrighted or trademarked assets will be accepted. Send submissions to email@example.com.
Participants must include their first and last name as well as their phone numbers.
The top three entries will be selected by Creemore Minor Baseball executives, and the winner will be voted on by the players.
The contest winner will receive a Creemore Baseball jersey with the new logo and will have the honour of throwing out the first pitch at the home opener in May.
