Council covers cost of new Station security system
Clearview council has approved a funding request from Station on the Green’s volunteer management board in the amount of $5,146.39 as reimbursement for the installation of a new security system at the facility.
Deputy Mayor Barry Burton made the pitch on behalf of the board saying that because of the pandemic, the facility has had no income, although expenses have continued and therefore the coffers are empty.
He said the replacement of the system was necessary to protect the asset, from not only break-ins but also flooding and fire.
Councillor Robert Walker, who voted against the expenditure along with Councillor Phyllis Dineen, said he would rather see the board pay half, as has been the practise for some large expenditures at community halls but Burton said the board would not be able to cover half.
“Covid has crippled us,” he said.
Councillor Connie Leishman said she fully supports the expenditure because the Station houses public washrooms, which are an asset to the community, and are in need of protection from vandalism.
Burton reported the good news is that the Station’s solar panels continue to generate $903.72 per month in revenue to offset the $2,618.94 monthly expenses. Also, it is expected that rentals will resume in the immediate future and that Clearview Community Church has committed to renewing their rental contract.
