Crews respond to ruptured natural gas line

 In News

A contractor replacing sidewalks for the Township of Clearview on Elizabeth Street East in Creemore hit a natural gas line at 11 a.m. Monday morning.

Township staff said the contractor initially struck a water valve that was placed in the sidewalk. Public works staff responded on site and asked for the contractor to dig a little deeper in order to fix the valve.

Utility locates did not show any gas lines within that section of the road allowance and so they dug further. It was a surprise when the contractor hit the gas line considering the locates showed it should have been on the other side of the street. Clearview Fire Department and Enbridge Gas were called on site and since and has been repaired.

The area was monitored for gas levels and safety during the three hours it took to shut off the gas.
