MONTGOMERY, John Archibald

Peacefully at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, John Montgomery, in his 88th year, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023. Beloved husband of Kay (Flack). Dear father of Sandra, Neil and the late Byron (2019). Cherished father-in-law of Viola Poletes-Montgomery. Dearly loved grandfather of Paul (Chrissie), Tonya, Dee and Jemma. Will be deeply missed by his sisters in law, Orneva, Elaine, Lena and Irma and, many nieces and nephews.
John was born and raised in Creemore, proud son of Florence and Lindsay and brother to the late Jim. He worked for several years in banking, first with the local Creemore Toronto Dominion bank and then, working as an accountant at Camp Borden. The opportunity to do something different arose with Goodyear and he ended up staying for over 30 years until he retired in 1994. John then discovered another passion – exploring his roots and his extended family’s ancestries. If there was a McQueen, Flack or Montgomery family reunion, he was there, asking questions and always discovering more people to add to his ever-growing family tree.
John was a good-humoured man with a keen intellect and a great sense of humour. His true self though was his care and devotion to his family. John knew once he laid eyes on Kay Flack, they were meant to share their lives together. And over 67 years, John and Kay journeyed together through life while happily raising a family at their house on the hill. John will be deeply missed by anyone lucky enough to have known him as either a father, grandfather, friend or colleague. At John’s request there will be no funeral. Interment has taken place. Donations in John’s memory can be made to the Creemore Union Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home.
