Avening Hall wrapped for winter, Sunnidale nearing completion

In spite of delays with the Avening Hall project, Clearview council remains committed to completing Access for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA) renovations at all municipal facilities.

Mayor Doug Measures says the halls are a big part of what makes Clearview such a special place to live.

“Council has consistently said we will continue to build the small halls,” said Measures. “We made the decision to pause other projects until the first two halls (Avening and Sunnidale) are completed and then reassess. It is very difficult to budget when construction prices are constantly increasing.”

The Avening Community Centre renovation was slated to be completed in November and has fallen well behind schedule. Work was recently completed to protect the hall from winter weather. Council will be updated on progress and next steps at the Jan. 15 meeting. In the meantime, Baz Dokainish, project manager for Clearview Public Works says the Sunnidale Hall project is progressing well. All exterior work has been completed and work on the interior, including installation of an elevator, is a week or two behind schedule.
