Driver charged in connection with September fatal collision

Huronia West OPP has arrested and charged an individual in relation to a fatal collision that occurred at 3-4 Sideroad Sunnidale and Concession Road 9 Sunnidale in September.

As a result of the Sept. 23 collision, a 31-year-old female passenger from the Township of Clearview was pronounced deceased.

The investigation revealed the accused was driving 173km per hour in an 80km per hour zone during poor weather conditions, failing to stop at a stop sign, and subsequently impacting another vehicle. On Dec. 19 police arrested a 33-year-old from Adjala- Tosorontio Township and charged them with: Dangerous Operation Causing Death and three counts of Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm.

The driver of one of the vehicles was transported by Air Ornge to a Toronto trauma hospital for non- life-threatening injuries. An infant passenger was transported by Air Ornge to a Toronto trauma hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple other passengers involved in the collision, including another child passenger, were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood in February.
