Make a New Year’s resolution to support local journalism

 In Opinion

December is a busy month for The Creemore Echo crew and we don’t always have a chance to pause and count our blessings. But when we do, there are many.

Next week, you will see our annual Year in Review edition come to your mailboxes and/or inboxes. It is a scrapbook of the highlights and lowlights of the year gone by. It is a great opportunity for us to reflect on all that has happened, all that we have achieved, where we failed, and how we can support the community in the coming year.

2023 was a year of expansion. The Echo is now being delivered to more mailboxes in Clearview Township than ever before. We hear the community’s desire to have a print or digital newspaper, a curated collection of hyper-local news and information they can’t get anywhere else, and we are happy to provide that service.

As part of a pilot project, we are spreading out and we hope The Echo is well received.

In next week’s edition, as per our tradition, we will be listing the names of those who give a little extra when it comes to paying for their subscriptions. We call them our boosters, champions and patrons and we hope to see new names added to that list in the future. In order to continue distributing The Echo further afield we will need to gain subscribers and advertisers in Stayner and New Lowell. We hope you will make a New Year’s resolution to support local journalism.

Until then, we wish everyone a happy, healthy and uneventful holiday. Safe travels to everyone on the roads, and sanity to all those who are hosting large family gatherings.

The Echo crew will be taking a few days off between Christmas and New Year’s to re-charge for 2024.

From The Echo family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
