Creemore Coyotes facing must-win season final

 In Sports

Creemore saw their season high six-game win streak end abruptly on the 20th vs. the Minto 81’s.

Holding a 3-1 lead with two minutes to go in the second period, things quickly fell apart with Minto scoring two quick goals before the end of the frame.

Minto continued by scoring early in the third to take the lead and then holding on by adding an empty netter for a 5-3 final.

Scoring for Creemore was Anthony Novielli, Adam Logozzo and Jordan Taylor all with singles. Taking the loss in net was Mason Kameka. However the sting of the loss was quickly eased when local band Hogback Road fired up their amps and startedinto their wide repertoire of cover songs by Bryan Adams, Queen, The Killers, U-2, Brooks and Dunn etc. $850 was jammed into the contribution jar to help the band get back on their feet after a fire. Thanks to all who contributed.

Jan. 21 saw the first ever visit by the Georgian Bay AppleKings. Vastly improved from when the Coyotes were at their home opener back in October – the team from Thornbury came away with a 4-3 victory. It was a tough game for us from start to finish, says GM Tom Macham. We had a goal disallowed, due to the net being off its moorings even though their goalie kicked it off. They allowed a goal by Thornbury that took a conference at centre ice to decide if it was a goal. Nothing was going our way in that game says Macham. It happens from time to time – you just have to suck it up and keep going. Scoring for Creemore was Novielli, Logozzo and J Taylor all with singles. Taking the loss in net was Brendan Macham. Mackenzie Fleming is doing a great job in Thornbury in molding this team says Macham. Give him a couple more years and they will be contending for top four at least and maybe higher.
