The Little Day Spa big on personalized service

 In Business

The Little Day Spa in Duntroon is small… but mighty! Owned and operated by Catrina Walsh, this little gem is a bright and serene oasis for personal pampering.

“I live, breathe and eat this whole spa. It’s my life and I love it,” said Walsh; and it shows.

Built and designed with utmost thought and care, The Little Day Spa is actually a renovated front porch. Gleaming white with gold and sage accents, the spa is warm and welcoming with all the equipment needed to take care of your body, mind and soul.

“For 10 years I was a developmental service worker, supporting individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities,” said Walsh. “I decided to make a change and it occurred to me that I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry.”

Having already attended night classes to become a certified make-up artist, she went back to school during the pandemic and took an accelerated program at the Modern College for Hairstyling and Esthetics in Barrie. While attending school, she oversaw the construction of her space so that she would be ready to launch. Once she graduated (with honours), she opened her doors in March 2022.

“It was hard work. I took a big leap, but it’s such a different feeling when you find your true passion,” said Walsh.

The Little Day Spa is your go-to place in Clearview that offers manicures, pedicures, facials, lash extension and brow care, waxing, relaxation massage and then some! Her service offerings are laid out on a menu that reads like a whimsical and creative cocktail list. Aren’t you curious to find out what the “The Posh and Polish”, “The Calming Escape”, “The Diva”, “The Glow Up” and “The Wide Eyed Beauty” are?

Her clientele (men, women and children) take advantage of all these services with the majority heading into this little haven for pedicures and manicures. Her favourite services are the ones where she creates the most change; “I love seeing how happy, relaxed and glowing people look.”

“How I differentiate myself from other day spas in Collingwood is that my services can be very specifically designed to you; what you want and what your needs are,” said Walsh. The other differentiator, she points out, is the benefit of her small space. Each appointment is just for you. Individualized. Personalized scents. Quiet or a choice of music you enjoy. You can be silent, you can chat, you can sleep (many fall asleep during a treatment, shared Walsh) or read a book, which is wholly different than many busy and crowded nail salons and other day spa services.

Walsh’s services are constantly evolving. While balancing her home life and spa, she is actively learning new skills, attending webinars to explore emerging styles and trends and test new products.

“You do have to follow different trends and alternative products to make sure you are up to date – especially as fashion can change with the seasons,” said Walsh.
