Wide victory sends Creemore Coyotes to playoffs

 In Sports

With a final score of 15-6 for the Creemore Coyotes Saturday, general manager Tom Macham can only describe the game as weird.

The wide victory over the Erin Outlaws did earn the senior men’s team a spot in the playoffs.

“I’ve never seen a game go that way before,” said Macham.

Erin seemed to be in control with a 4-3 lead heading into the second frame. “I’m not sure what happened but every puck that we fired in the direction of the Erin goal seemed to go in.”

Creemore finished the regular season with a 14-6 record and 29 points, placing them second behind Ripley with 35 points.

First round playoff opponents will once again be the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks.

Creemore also placed three players in the top-10 for scoring: JD Falconer, Ben Hughes and Jordan Taylor, with goaltender Mason Kameka third in GAA for goalies with 10 games or more, coming in at 3.04.

Scoring for Creemore was Kevin Boyd with a five-point night including his first Senior AA hatrick, five points for Falconer, Adam Logozzo with a five-point night as well, Hughes got three assists, Anthony Novielli with four assists, three points each for Kris Dobinson and Jacob VanderZaag, and single goals going to J Taylor, Nick Sammons, Kyle Linney, Derick “Farmer” Robertson and Owen King.

The night featured the Coyotes donning retro style jerseys honouring the Creemore Chiefs and the Gowan family who were active from 1978-93 winning the Championship in 1991. Six former players and a former coach were on hand to perform the ceremonial puck drop. Making the trek to centre ice were former Chiefs Terry Gowan, Kevin McInnis, Paul Walker, Steve Baker, Mitch Carruthers, Greg Conn and former coach Fred Prosser. The Creemore Coyotes would like to thank Mitch Scott of Starting Line Up Sports Apparel for designing the jerseys for this special night.

“They brought us good luck,” said Macham. “I think the boys will be wearing them again.”
