Sunny Days ahead for those in need of repairs

 In Business

Meeting and talking to Adam Crowder, founder of Sunny Days Motorsports in Creemore, left me thinking about one of the best loved books of all time, The little Engine That Could. Not only because Crowder has the magic touch of fixing pretty much anything with a motor, but because he embodies what this 1930s publication teaches: the value of optimism and hard work.

Named after his two-and-a-half-year- old daughter, Sunny, Crowder started his mobile small engine repair service in 2022.

While a relatively new business, Crowder shared “I’ve been doing the mechanic thing since I was a teenager. As a kid, one of my personal interests was tinkering with my own cars. My dad got me working on stuff at home like trucks, cars and bikes.”

With a passion and natural curiosity to understand how things work, he excelled in high school shop class and went on to mechanics, both formally at Centennial College, as well as practically, working as a forklift mechanic. This gave him a deeper understanding of larger, powerful machines like trucks, coaches and hydraulics.

Crowder shifted gears (literally) to other types of power equipment like snowmobiles, ATVs and dirt bikes.

From there, he accelerated to working in service departments for boats. His experience grew to include sourcing and stocking parts, running service departments, customer service, sales and of course, repairs.

“I got a lot of experience doing so many things,”said Crowder. “It helped me understand the customer experience from the front of the house, but also how to run a repair and parts shop at the back. And at one point, all these opportunities got me to a place where I wondered if I could do this on my own.”
Derailed by serious eye surgery in 2022, he put his work in neutral to really assess what he wanted to do.

With a collection of well-loved tools and lots of experience, his community sparked the idea: a friend offered him a trailer in exchange for fixing his wood- chipper. His wife helped design the logo. His sister used a Cricut to create the decal. His daughter gave him the inspiration for the name. Shortly after that, a Clearview mom spotted his trailer and dialled the number looking for help with a broken snowmobile. Sunny Days Motorsports shifted into high gear.

“I work on anything that has a small engine,”said Crowder. “I can come to you and will do my best to fix what’s broken right on your driveway so it doesn’t leave the property. For bigger jobs, I’ll transport it to my place and bring it back to you”.

Crowder has worked on lawnmowers, leaf blowers, wood splitters, snowblowers, ATVs, dirt bikes, weed- whackers, generators, pumps, go-karts, tillers, vacuum cleaners, even an air fryer. Recently he repaired a 1952 Ford tractor which gave him great joy.

“I’d like to be able to say thank you to all the people who have supported me so far,”said Crowder. “I am incredibly grateful for everyone’s support in helping cement the idea that this can work, that I can support my family and I can provide a meaningful service for my community.”

Sunny Days Motorsports can be reached at 705-717-8573. Crowder charges $60/hour and can provide you with an estimate if required.
