Building bridges at Glencairn Conservation Area

 In Community

Ganaraska Hiking Trail club members from the Mad River, Barrie and Oro Medonte sections came together to help with the construction of two bridges at Glencairn Conservation Area.

The bridges were built over two specific areas that were seen as potential hazards to ensure the safety of hikers. This 111 acre nature reserve property is heavily treed with no recent harvesting and is dissected by the Mad River.

The planning for this project began in the fall with a collaboration of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservatory (EBC), who owns the property, Arie Van Walraven and Dick Edwards; members of the Blue Mountain Bruce Trail Club and who have many years of building expertise of bridges along the Bruce trail and the Ganaraska Mad River Hiking Club.

A big thank you to Liv Callo, Conservation Projects Manager and Stewardship of the EBC to help with the funding and to the Bruce Trail members who worked with me on measuring both build sites, planning for materials and working with the volunteers today building the bridges.
