OPP: Threat to high school results in weapons charges

An 18-year-old Clearview Township man is facing multiple weapons charges after police were informed of a potential threat made to Collingwood Collegiate Institute in Collingwood back in March 2024.

OPP from Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment and Huronia West detachments seized numerous weapons and laid charges following an investigation into a threat made by a former student.

During the investigation, police discovered that the former student may possess weapons in his vehicle and residence in Clearview Township. When police attended the residence, officers located two firearms and several high-capacity magazines, all improperly stored and without a valid firearms licence.

Police located and stopped the individual’s vehicle in a parking lot on Cameron Street in Collingwood, where the driver and a passenger were arrested without incident. During the arrest, police also seized two replica firearms, bear spray, pepper spray, a knife, and brass knuckles.

As a result, Jordan Young was charged with the following offences:

  • Utter threats to cause Death
  • Possession of a Prohibited device for a dangerous purpose – Four Counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose – Three Counts
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm – Two Counts
  • Possession of an imitation firearm for a dangerous purpose – Two Counts
  • Possess a prohibited device
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – Three Counts

The vehicle passenger, 18-year-old Bradley Caughlin, of Collingwood, was also charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purposes and breach of a sentence order.

Both were held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

Dufferin OPP investigate serious Airport Road collision

Dufferin OPP is investigating a serious collision that occurred on Airport Road in Mulmur. On Sept. 7, shortly before 8:30 p.m., police officers and other emergency crews responded to a three-vehicle collision on Airport Road near County Road 21. Three individuals were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. One party was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre.

Airport Road was closed for several hours while police continued their investigation, which is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Dufferin OPP at 519-925-3838 or 1-888-310-1122. Witnesses affected by the collision who would like to speak with Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services are encouraged to call 905-951-3838.

Dufferin OPP searching for missing teen

Police are asking the public and our media partners for assistance in locating a missing male.

The missing male is 16-year-old Tobias Dale.

Dale is described as white skin, male, 5’11, 160 pounds, dark brown wavy hair, brown eyes. Tobias was last seen wearing a burgundy sweater, burgundy track pants and sage green Vans shoes.

He was last seen on Sept. 8 at approximately 10 p.m., in Mulmur Township.

If you live or work in the area, please check surveillance video. Investigators are asking that anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Tobias to contact Police at 1-888-310-1122.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, from p.m. to 3 p.m., members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are hosting a community open house at the Primrose detachment located at 506312 Highway 89 in the Town of Mono.
