Purkis, Margaret (nee Nicholson)
PURKIS, Margaret (nee Nicholson) 1941-2024 – Suddenly at home, in her 84th year while preparing to welcome her family for the thanksgiving holiday. Only daughter of Isabella (nee MacLean) and John Nicholson who immigrated from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, Margaret trained at Wellesley College to become a Registered Nurse, eventually taking on a teaching role herself. After meeting Ernie, her loving husband of 58 years on a blind date in 1965, Margaret married and was a fiercely devoted mother to her four children Mark (Alix), Greg (Liza), Amy, and David (Laura) and grandmother to eight grandchildren: Nigella, Melody, Ethan, John, Avery, Zach, Mackenzie, and Logan. Margaret was a dedicated and generous member of the communities in which she lived. She volunteered with various organizations including the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Junior League. In retirement, she continued to support many organizations in the community such as the Creemore Library, Creemore Medical Centre, Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, and Station on the Green to name a few. A private family ceremony will be held on October 24. Family, friends, and her community can plan for a celebration of life to be held at a future date.
