Downtown transforms into Halloween home base

Creemore’s main street is the place to be on Halloween for Mill Street Trick or Treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The idea is to create a central meeting place for all who wish to participate in the Halloween festivities whether that means trick-or-treating, handing out candy or just to get a boo at all the little ones in their costumes.

“It’s all about inclusivity and accessibility,” said Sara Hershoff, BIA treasurer and publisher of The Creemore Echo. “People should be able to come out and enjoy a barrier-free Halloween.”

She was hearing from people that they weren’t getting as many trick-or-

treaters as they would like so, inspired by a US trend to gather in a central location and shell out candy, Hershoff came up with the idea to invite people into town to claim one of the BIA’s Muskoka chairs and hand out their candy, or just watch the ghosts and ghouls go by.

“It harkens back to a time when Mill Street was the focus, which I enjoyed so much when my kids were little,” said Hershoff.

A portion of Mill Street will be closed to vehicles so pedestrians can move freely and safely.

“The hope is that it will be multigenerational,” said Hershoff. “The kids are just too cute for only the parents to enjoy.”

Businesses are invited to hand out candy and participate in any way they wish.
