That’s a wrap on 2024’s community Christmas dinner
Santa’s Elves gathered to decorate the Legion Hall in November. The early timeframe worked well for the Legion who used the decorations for 15 events in addition to the Christmas dinner. In the past, Elves would deck the hall in a flurry on Christmas Eve, so the adornments would only be used once and then be taken down on Boxing Day. It was great to see the decorations be appreciated for the entire festive season.
Enchantingly, some of the ornamentation is brought out especially for the Christmas dinner.
This year’s gingerbread creation by Annette Chiasson was a sunken castle and shipwreck, awash with sand, pebbles, bubbles, and little peppermint hermit crabs. As in past years, her entire work was edible except for the base on which the work was transported, and the light used to highlight and brighten all the interior intricacies. The scent was divine.
As well, nutcrackers continue to be a principal theme particularly since the display has extended to two tables. I’m happy to say Santa made sure that several more fellows were added to the collection!
This 23rd annual Creemore Community Christmas Dinner, held on Christmas Day, proudly served 70 traditional turkey dinners with 24 delivered.
The Elves purchased gifts for 14 Creedan Valley residents without family.
Non-perishable food items were collected for the Creemore Food Bank. As well, remaining food was packaged as frozen dinners and a donation will be made.
A donation is also given to the Legion in appreciation for the members who provide the facility at no cost.
So many wonderful people and businesses contribute to the community dinner through time, food, and funds, that it is difficult to list everyone. However, my records indicate that this was Jim Henderson’s 15th year as Chef Elf, and he deserves much of the credit for this happy tradition. He and his elves prepared a terrific holiday feast.
Thank you to all, and Happy New Year!
