Steps for Change: #EndOverdose Run

 In Events

Brad’s Place Addiction Treatment of Southern Georgian Bay will host the Steps for Change: #EndOverdose Run in Stayner on Aug. 31.

The non-profit organization is dedicated to providing empathetic personal and group counselling to teenagers, young adults, and their loved ones through outpatient counselling, therapeutic groups, and 24-hour support.

In March 2010, Brad Buckner, at the age of 25, tragically lost his battle with drug addiction. Before his passing, Brad sought help but found that the available support was not tailored to the unique needs of youth and young adults. To honour Brad’s memory and address this critical gap in support services, we established Brad’s Place. Our mission is to offer a therapeutic approach to sobriety for teenagers, young adults, and their families in the Georgian Triangle Area, providing them with the tools and support they need to overcome addiction.

The opioid crisis continues to be a significant concern in Ontario. Between January 2016 and June 2024, there were 49,105 apparent opioid toxicity deaths reported in Canada, with a substantial number occurring in Ontario.

On August 31, 2025, we will host the Steps for Change: #EndOverdose Run in Stayner, ON. This event will feature one-, 5.5- and 11-kilometre runs, bringing the community together to honour those impacted by addiction and raise awareness about overdose prevention. It will unite survivors, families, friends, and advocates in a shared commitment to solidarity and fundraising, supporting our mission to create lasting change.

Organizers are looking for partners and sponsors. Contact board chair Paul Lopes at 705-712-3699 or p.lopes@bradsplace.org.
