Run for Her: multi-distance trail event in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada

Registration is now open for the 2025 Run for Her, an annual fundraising event in Collingwood in support of ovarian cancer research.

Founded by Collingwood native and ovarian cancer researcher Alicia Tone in 2020 as a solo half-marathon, the Run for Her has grown to a multi- distance trail event and education initiative involving collaborations with local companies and the patient community. The local grassroots event is growing, with 98 participants in 2024 and close links to a national charity and a global cause.

Run for Her takes place on the trails of Three-Stage/ Pretty River Provincial Park at 7:30 am on Saturday, Sept. 27.

All funds raised through the Run for Her go to Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming the most fatal cancer affecting women and people born with ovaries.

An estimated 3,100 Canadians will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2025: more than half will die within five years of diagnosis.

This year’s event is held in loving tribute to Peggy Pickett – tireless patient advocate, 2024 Run for Her committee member, and unwavering source of joy and strength.

“Current treatments are just buying time. From diagnosis, I understood how important it was to speak up, speak out and advocate wherever I could. Women’s lives depend on it… Scientists, researchers, and patients all need to work together to advocate, push the boundaries of science, and find a cure,” said patient advocate Shannon Kadar.

To date, the Run for Her has raised $68,164, with a goal of passing the $100,000 mark in 2025.

Some of the aspects making the Run for Her a unique event include:

• Participants can choose to run or walk one of four distances (5km, 10km, 21km, 31km)

• Patient advocates are on site each year to cheer on participants

• Participant awards, including first and final 31 km finisher (Gazelle and Grit awards)

• Music, snacks, swag, homemade race bibs and epic scenery

• All genders, paces and skill levels welcome
