Wilson Cecil Alexander (Alex) Dec. 5, 1936 - Aug. 25, 2026.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Alex Wilson on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital in his 90th year after a brief illness.

Loving husband of Robyn Wilson and proud father of Colin Wilson (Laurie), Cathy Vandersluis (predeceased) (Rick) and Chris Wilson (Mark). Dearly loved grandpa of Jasmine Gordon, Broc Wilson, Cameron Vandersluis, Connor Linton, Alex Vandersluis, Claire Linton and Kaila McAskill. Great-grandfather of 10 great-grandchildren. Alex was predeceased by his sisters Muriel Day and Marjorie Leonard.

Alex was born on his parents’ farm in Banda. He went to school first in the one-room schoolhouse at Banda, then in Creemore followed by Collingwood for Grade 13. He excelled as a student and an athlete. He married the love of his life (Robyn Smith) on April 12, 1958, in Creemore. He purchased his first farm in Banda right around the corner from his parents and then a few years later, moved to a 200-acre farm between the 5th and 6th Line north of Creemore. It was while he was on that farm, that he decided to get some seasonal work in the winter to help supplement the farm income. This took him to the Devil’s Glen Ski Club where he worked as a lift attendant on the weekends. He did this for a while until such a time that he was asked if he would consider the general manager’s position. That was the beginning of a great relationship with Devil’s Glen and so many wonderful people he got to know there. He remained the general manager there for a period of just under 25 years before he retired. The farms had been sold in the meantime, and he and Robyn and family had moved to Creemore. After a few years in Creemore, they moved to a home north of Singhampton in Osprey Twp., and then into a new home they built three doors down. As time went on, they moved to a home on Cedar Street in Collingwood where they lived for a number of years, before moving to Raglan Village in Collingwood in July of 2024.

Alex loved to do things for and with his family. He could always be found at the rink or ball diamond or track and field grounds supporting his children in the many sports they were involved with. He was an avid ball player for some time playing hardball into his forties. He was an active member of the Lions Club in Creemore for some time. He took up golf and fell in love with that. He and Robyn did a lot of golfing together, took a number of golf trips together including Scotland and many, many trips to Myrtle Beach but those had to be in the fall so he could be back home in time to get things ready at the Glen for ski season. Alex would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He was extremely handy and could do almost anything with a set of vise grips and a hammer.

Anyone who knew Alex would agree that he had a real gift to get to know people and grow relationships. Once you were a friend or colleague of his, you could always count on him to be a good friend and to have your back. He was always so sociable and could very often be witnessed teasing someone or joking about something.

The family would like to offer their very special thanks to Dr. Alex Pearce and the nurses at CGMH who gave Alex the most wonderful care during his last few days on this earth.

As per his wishes, Alex has been cremated. A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at Devil’s Glen on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with tributes at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alex’s memory can be made to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation.
