An exhibit of relics from Creemore’s past will be held over for another weekend.
Curators James Bruer and Liz Eakins are so pleased with the positive response they had about Remnants, the installation at the Log Cabin this past weekend at Creemore Arts Fest.
“We are happy to report that it will be held over for the Thanksgiving weekend in order that more people have a chance to experience it,” they said.
The majority of the artifacts are on loan from Robert Curran, who was born in Dunedin and raised in Creemore. When asked when he started collecting he replied, “a half hour too late,” referring to a Victorian era volunteer firefighter’s helmet he missed out on at auction back in the late 1980s.
His latest find is a 1952 calendar from Vince’s Bakery, where the Old Mill House Pub is now.
“We’re hoping that he writes a book some day soon, as he has so many interesting local stories from growing up in Creemore, let alone the knowledge gathered from all of the historical artifacts,” said the curators.
“PHAHS is very grateful to Bob, and to Paul Vorstermans, for the loan of the collection, and to the Log Cabin Committee for the use of the building. A perfect pairing.”
Curran is a fan of the installation, commenting on the originality of the streetscapes in the round.
The photos of Mill Street, displayed in the rounds, were taken by John Wiggins. He photographed a complete panorama of the main street in 1978.
Creemore Log Cabin will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
