Assumptions made about vegan

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:
In response to the March 13 letter to the editor, Animals treated with care and respect, p. 4.
I’d like to thank Eric Miller for writing into the paper regarding The Creemore Refillery’s vegan household products. It reminded me that the assumptions around the word “vegan” are very real.
We do in fact carry vegan household products – not food products. Our cleaners, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants, toothpaste, even dental floss are all vegan. What that actually means is simple, they do not contain any animal ingredients or animal derived ingredients.  “Cruelty-free” means our products were not tested on animals.
I think it’s amazing that we have a choice to support products that aren’t made with animal by-products like crushed bones, feces, glands, hooves and animal fat… (to name a few).  Like you, Eric, we believe treating our environment (which includes our very precious animals) with care and respect.
So, as I sit here and eat my pork chop, which was raised, locally and ethically at the Metheral’s farm last year, I have only one question left… what the heck is a “Beyond Meat Burger” anyway?
