Be prepared, with naturopathic first aid kit

 In Opinion

In the month of July I am always reminded of an incident a few summers ago where I was bit by a spider and the bite created an abscess. It was a crazy event and it makes me think each summer how vulnerable we can be to nature and it’s creatures. I am a huge nature and outdoor lover so instead of staying inside, I have a handy little naturopathic first aid kit to help be prepared for whatever life (or the insect world) throws at you.
This is my natural first aid kit to help you with any sudden medical conditions that may arise:
• Traveler’s diarrhea – Arsenicum Album 200 CH . If diarrhea occurs, take three pellets at onset and every 15 minutes for one hour. Then up to four times per day until symptoms improve or as needed. Also start a high dose probiotic like HMF Intensive to give your system the good bacteria to fight the resident bad bacteria.
• For bumps and bruises, aches and pains –Arnica montana 200CH – Take 3 pellets at onset of symptoms three times per day until symptoms subside. You can also use arnica topically in creams and salves to rub on sore body parts.
• For minor burns – Cantharis 200CH. Take three pellets at onset of symptoms three times per day until symptoms subside. Topically you can use Callendulla cream/salves three times per day.
• Bacterial Infection – Berberis Formula by Seroyal. This natural antibiotic is my go-to for bacterial infections. Take two pills three times per day (be sure to take away from probiotics). This helps with infection and also to improve digestive elimination of pathogens.
• Viral infection – Oil of Oregano or Echinacea tincture. Follow dropper dosage on the bottle, can be used for up to 15 days straight. Great to take on trips or send with your kids to camp.
• Throat or ear infection – Grapefruit Seed Extract (by Nutribiotics): Throat Gargle – Stir three drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) into a small (three ounces or more) glass of water. Gargle several times. Use as often as needed. Always dilute; Ear rinse – Thoroughly mix three to five drops of GSE with one ounce of glycerin or alcohol. Apply one to two drops of this solution in affected ear one to two times daily. Use as often as needed. Do not use full strength in ears.
• Bug bites – Severe swelling and itching can indicate a B vitamin deficiency. Supplement with a B multi through the summer months (kids too). Homeopathic remedy:
– Ledum 30CH (for infected bites) –  Take three pellets at onset of symptoms three times per day until symptoms subside.
– Apis 30CH (for swollen, redness and bee stings). Take three pellets at onset of symptoms three times per day until symptoms subside.
Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and safe summer!
