Cannabis production, retail up for council discussion Monday

 In News

The August 23 meeting of Clearview council will review two different sides of Cannabis in Clearview Township, the bylaw regulating cannabis cultivation and production facilities, and a recommendation to issue a survey gauging public interest on allowing cannabis retail operations throughout the township.
A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday to inform the public and allow them to comment on proposed regulations of Zoning Bylaw 06-54, setting out permitted land uses and development standards for cannabis cultivation and cannabis production facilities in Clearview.
Written public comments about the proposed updates can be submitted until noon on August 20 to Director of Community Services, Mara Burton via email at mburton@clearview.ca or online through the Public Meeting Participation Form, www.clearview.ca/Public-Meeting-Participation.
A separate item up for discussion is the recommendation being brought forward by Clearview’s Economic Development Advisory Committee, requesting that council survey residents to gauge public opinion on opting into the province of Ontario’s cannabis retail program.
In 2019, council, after consultation with the public, decided to opt-out of the retail cannabis program with the option of opting back in at any time.
If council had opted in, they would have been unable to opt-out in the future.
The proposed survey would then invite public input at that time.
The August 23 meeting of Clearview council will be held virtually and is live-streamed on Clearview’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/c/ClearviewTownshipCA.
