Councillor undergoes surgery

Sunnidale Corners Councillor Connie Leishman says that despite a paring down of non-elective surgeries at hospitals, her surgery will go ahead.
Leishman has bladder cancer and is going in for surgery on March 31 to have a kidney removed.
She said the prognosis is good and the procedure should be enough to remove the cancer so she doesn’t have to have further treatment.
“I’m not terribly worried about it. I think I will be fine. You know, anything can go sideways but we’re not looking to have that happen,” said Leishman.
Because of hospital restrictions due to COVID-19, she is not allowed to receive visitors during her five-day stay at hospital, and will be convalescing at home for another two months.
Leishman said she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go public, but she was concerned that people would find her absence from meetings and events conspicuous. Now that everything is cancelled, she is going public anyway.
“Here we are locked down, and nobody’s going to see me out and about anyway,” she said.
