On Nov. 30, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services hosted a Commencement and Honours Ceremony recognizing 23 new recruits, 23 employees celebrating career advancements and seven Governor General of Canada EMS Exemplary Service Medal award recipients.

“During my time in office, I have had the pleasure of speaking with many of our Paramedics and what always strikes me is their desire to serve their communities,” said Warden George Cornell. “The passion they have for helping our residents during their time of need is truly inspiring. Best wishes to our new recruits as they begin their careers with the County of Simcoe, and congratulations to our honourees on their tremendous achievements.”

Paramedic Services employs more than 380 staff, which include full and part-time Paramedics, Supervisors, and administrative support staff. Paramedics provide emergency medical response and community support to Simcoe County residents, responding to more than 83,000 calls in 2022 and utilizing 42 ambulance and Rapid Response Units across the region during peak-times.

“As we continue to meet the evolving needs of our growing communities, it’s important that we both celebrate our new recruits and recognize the achievements of those who work tirelessly to provide high-quality care for our residents and visitors,” said Sarah Mills, Director and Chief, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services. “These new recruits join a Service that is working to redefine the role of paramedicine in healthcare, and the honourees they shared the stage with are wonderful mentors for them to look to for guidance and support. Paramedicine is more than emergency response, and we are excited for the opportunities that lay ahead.”
