Ensure irresponsible and unrestrained development does no damage

Editor:
I would like to let members of the community know that the Ontario government has begun a public consultation process about the role of conservation authorities.
This comes in the form of a survey on their website (www.ontario.ca/form/survey-ontario-conservation-authorities), available until March 13.
The survey does have several questions; the website of the Ontario Nature organization has some background information on the topic available for those who would like to know more before responding (ontarionature.org/campaigns/conservation-authorities/).
Even if you do not feel you have the time to go through the entire survey, please consider filling out what you can; if nothing else, there is an “additional feedback” section where you can voice your opinions.
This is an urgent issue given that in recent public meetings, large developers have been asking the government to remove conservation authorities entirely from the planning process.
As we in Clearview and Dufferin have had experiences with flooding and ice jams, we understand the importance of having a knowledgeable regulatory body to ensure that irresponsible and unrestrained development does not damage watershed resilience.
Sasha Kutuzyan,
Mulmur.
