Library activities to get you through winter

 In Community

Have you ever heard of the 33-13-3 Rule?

It is a story about the survival distance from the hearth fire during the seasons.

In the summer, one can be 33 feet away from the flames. In the spring and the fall, one can be 13 feet away from the blaze but in the deep of winter, three feet is just about the right measurement for maximum comfort.

If you are still feeling that the three-foot circumference is about right distance to travel away from the home hearth, drop into the Clearview Public Library and pick up a selection from our extensive collection of books, movies and music to enjoy. We have all the newest releases as well as the old classics. There is nothing quite like watching a good marathon of James Bond movies or the Hot In Cleveland Series to get through a two-day blizzard in the safety of your own family room.

If you are feeling a bit restless and looking for something to do close to home, we have plenty to keep you occupied each day of the week at the Creemore Branch.

On Tuesdays, we host the Ontario Early Programs. Baby and Me at 10 a.m., Stay, Play and Learn at 1 p.m. and the Parenting Cafe at 1 p.m. rotate throughout the month with Miss Margie as the leader.  At 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. every week, the Homework Club entertains those in Grades 5-8 with homework help, board games and crafts.

On Wednesdays, Library Time at 10:30 a.m. is for the preschoolers and their caretakers who like to listen to stories, sing songs and craft lots of fun educational activities. In the afternoon, the After School Klub offers a roster of STEAM projects, Lego challenges and computer time for those students in Grades 2-6.

On Thursdays, try out our free interactive and flexible tools in 14 different languages from the Simcoe County Cooperative to learn and practice new languages and gain valuable cultural insights. English as a second language is available through the Mango Database too.

On Fridays at 2 p.m., there is always something happening for adults. Craft a ribbon star to add to our contribution to the Australian One Million Stars Against Violence Campaign for the 2017 Commonwealth Games, create a card with the Adult Card of the Month club or channel your inner artist and join the Adult Colour My World club. The schedule is posted online at www.clearview.library.on.ca .

On Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, we will be hosting a Magic of Children in the Arts workshop to inspire and encourage children (Grades JK-8) to create, exhibit and celebrate art. Each child receives a positive comment and are awarded a prize of art materials. The celebration culminates with an awards reception. (Reception information will be handed out at the program.) Please register at the circulation desk for this free program.

With great excitement, we announce the return of computer lessons starting on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Creemore Branch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (eight lessons per day). These will be personal tutorials on your questions about computer usage. Sessions rotate between the three branches every Saturday for a three-month trial period. Please call the Creemore branch at 705-466-3011 for more information or to sign up for your preferred time and date.
