Mystery of a MacDonald Construction truck door

 In Community

MacDonald Construction has been around since the mid-1960s. Started by Ralph MacDonald, long- time resident and reeve of Creemore, the company was first located on Louisa Street (County Road 9), purchased from the Montgomery family, where MDSMetals is now.

MacDonald Construction moved to its current location with a new building in 1981, still on Montgomery land, at the west end of Wellington Street.

This photo depicts one of the doors from the first trucks used by the company. The logo was hand painted by Glen Ogilvie of Creemore, who was commissioned at the time (before stick-on labels were made) to logo all of the trucks, as well as signage (still seen at the Creemore Arena).

The truck door was mysteriously found in a barn in Milton. Mrs. Marshal, who found the door, diligently tried to locate the owners.

Ronnie and Larry MacDonald, sons of Ralph and Marie MacDonald, now co-owners of the construction company, were excited to retrieve the item.

After getting in contact with the company, Mrs. Marshal explained that the truck door has been in the barn since before 1978, since she has been there.

A monetary finder’s fee was offered but after talking about the door with its connections between the MacDonalds and the Montgomery family and the further connection between Glen Ogilvie and Tom Montgomery both belonging to the Shriners, Mrs. Marshal asked that the money be donated to the Shriners Hospital (which has already taken place.)

The company is now planning to hang the door in a prominent place of honour at MacDonald Construction.
