Permit issued, construction begins on Village Green

 In News

The Creemore Community Foundation received the Building Permit for the Village Green from Clearview Township on Sept. 2 which means that construction can begin immediately. The necessary trades are lined up and the site work will begin next week.
The Foundation continues to work with the Township on the approval for the proposed splash pad. The topic is expected to be on the Sept. 28 council agenda.
Natural Blends, landscape contractor for the Village Green, expects to complete the hard landscaping including the stage base, storage buildings, and fountain and splash pad foundations by November. Spring 2021 work will include construction of wooden seating, the stage canopy, walkways, and other hardscape finishing as well as planting new trees and the Creemore Horticultural Society gardens. The Foundation’s target date for completion is the end of June 2021 with a grand opening celebration, subject to local health regulations.
The Foundation wishes to thank the build team (Inese Bite, John Gordon, Laurie Severn, Sass Dempsey, and Judi Parker) for managing the overall design process to its completion. Responsibility for design details and construction management has been turned over to PFS Studio, First Step Building Consultants, and the Foundation. Individual members of the build team continue to provide support to finalize various aspects of the project, such as park signage, inscriptions for the heritage pavers along the Main Line walkway, and furniture acquisition.
Design of the new hort garden is being finalized by a team of four Hort Society members led by Hort member and master gardener Gail Cocker.
Arborist Tobias Effinger, in consultation with PFS and Cocker, decided on new tree plantings and is working with Natural Blends to source select specimens. The hoarding surrounding the building site was designed by James Bruer (volunteer) and continues to be updated to reflect the changing seasons as well as adding more art work; now that construction is underway, openings will be created at various heights to allow the public to observe and enjoy the progress.
Community support through donations to the Foundation continues to be strong. A public campaign to inspire contributions at all levels of giving, is planned in the near future. In the meantime, donations may be made on the Foundation website at www.creemorecommunityfoundation.ca.

Stuart Lazier is a Director of the Creemore Community Foundation.
