Siskins play Hornets in finals

The Stayner Siskins punched their ticket to the league final on Saturday night with a 3-2 overtime win against the Orillia Terriers at the Rotary Place arena to take the series four games to two.
Down 2-0 after the 2nd period the boys clawed their way back to tie the score at the end of regulation. A goal by Ryan MacKay at 2:41 of the overtime period sealed the deal and sent the many fans that made the trip from Stayner home happy. The Siskins have moved on the play the Alliston Hornets in the Carruthers Division Finals. Game one is March 12.
This year’s team features two players who both hail from New Lowell and who honed their skills with the Creemore Minor hockey system. Forward Gavin Mikaczo (3 G 1 A) and overage goaltender Brendan Macham (8 – 2   2.56 gaa  – .927 sv pct.) Mikaczo is in his first year with the Skins and Macham arrived via trade from Midland at the trade deadline. Both spent time in the AAA system as well with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders. Mikaczo spent seven years and Macham, 2. Both boys are happy to be playing in Stayner, which was their goal even while playing minor hockey.
