Stayner Lawn Bowling Club welcomes new bowlers

 In Sports

The Stayner Lawn Bowling is welcoming new and returning players for the upcoming season, which runs from June through to mid September.
Games are played Monday mornings at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and take about two hours, including social time when permitted.
Teams are made up at the beginning of each session, based on the members available for play and not preset teams.
Stayner Lawn Bowling characterizes itself as a fun club. When permitted, the club has barbecues and other social events. On Thursdays, the club plays to music from the nearby Stayner Market and afterwards members get together at the Stayner Legion to socialize and have a few laughs. The club hosts fun and competitive tournaments and members participate in tournaments hosted by other clubs.
Lawn bowling is somewhat similar to curling but is played outside. It is a low impact, therapeutic form of exercise and provides for a great social interaction.
The sport can be competitive, however, because of its relaxed pace and comparatively light physical demands, it is very popular with all ages, particularly seniors.
Membership is not expensive and all that is needed are flat soled shoes or running shoes, and the club provides the equipment and bowls.
This season for the first-year bowlers, membership is $125 and $150 for members or bowlers with previous experience.
In 2020 it was a safe sport and clubs bowled safely.
The Stayner Lawn Bowling Club has been going since 1924 and is located at 205 Ontario St. in Stayner.
If public health measures permit, there will be an open house on July 10.
