Teas and tinctures for mind-body connection

 In Opinion

The body is the place where mental and emotional symptoms are conveyed on a physical level. This is why the mind and body connection is not only one of great importance but also of great healing potential.

This year I formulated teas and tinctures with this in mind. I wanted to use medicinal mushrooms and herbs that not only benefited the body on a physical level but also on an energetic level as far as chakras – energy centers in the body. Here is what each chakra governs and some herb examples that I used in formulating our healing tincture line.

Root Chakra – the root chakra is all about stability, security, and what grounds you in life. I chose the mushroom Shatavari and the herb Damiana because they physically benefit organs of the pelvic region and for their rooted and grounding qualities.

Sacral Chakra – the sacral chakra is believed to govern how you experience sexuality, creative expression and emotions. I used the mushroom Chaga and the herb Burdock to strengthen vitality and also to ignite the sacral fire in terms of acting as a gentle aphrodisiac.

Solar Plex Chakra – the solar plex refers to the area around the abdomen above the belly button and provides a source of personal power and relates to self-esteem, relationships and our place in the world. The herbs used are the mushroom shitake and the herb Hyssop for their gentle soothing effect and their affinity for gastrointestinal healing capabilities.

Heart Chakra – the heart chakra is related to compassion, love and relationships. The herbs that I chose here are Cordyceps mushroom and the herb Tilia. They compliment each other in that Cordyceps is used for stamina and energy while Tilia is used to put the nervous system at ease.

Throat Chakra – the throat chakra governs self- expression, communication, and the ability to speak one’s truth. This is a chakra that is commonly out of balance due to the high volume of communicating we do now so I wanted to use a calming herb like Lemon Balm and pair it with an immune mushroom – turkey tail. This combo balances and strengthens.

Third Eye Chakra – this chakra is in charge of perception, awareness, and spiritual communication. In order to enlighten this energetic centre it is important to have a clear mind. I chose Lion’s Mane mushroom for mental clarity and holy basil herb to calm overthinking.

The Crown Chakra – the crown chakra is all about spiritual connection and transformation. It provides the awareness that you are a soul in a physical body. It is the most spiritual of the chakras as it is linked to connecting to the divine. For this reason I choseherbs that help us sleep and access our unconscious mind – Reishi mushroom and Lavender herb.

Summer is a great time to slow down and strengthen your mind body connection. I invite you to look into the times when you feel most aligned and create a routine around prioritizing that on a daily basis.
