Dufferin Community Foundation extends emergency support

Dufferin Community Foundation is delivering a second round of funding through the Emergency Community Support Fund and will invest up to $50,000 to support the critical programs and services Dufferin County needs.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been an unpredictable and challenging time for many, with some communities experiencing higher levels of vulnerability than others. Marginalized groups, youth, children and the elderly, essential workers, and newcomers are just some of the communities that have faced increased challenges. To provide emergency relief, the Government of Canada, in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada launched the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), a $350 million investment to help support communities made increasingly vulnerable by the pandemic. Through this partnership, The Dufferin Community Foundation provided $112,750 to bolster programs and services in our communities.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared over six months ago, community-based charities and non-profit organizations have been working tirelessly to provide emergency support to those who need it most.
“In 2020, Dufferin charities’ word of the day was ‘pivot.’ The first wave of ECSF provided timely fuel for necessary twists and turns in delivering service to our most vulnerable residents. But, even as brilliant innovators, many of our ECSF grant recipients were also struggling with massive shortfalls due to cancelled fundraising events. Our grants committee sees the second wave as timed just right to sustain current efforts through the end of the year. And, with the COVID creativity in Dufferin charities, we shouldn’t be surprised if some short-term coping measures translate into long-term best practices,” said grants convener MaryAnn Lowry.
The Emergency Community Support Fund is designed to support these organizations as they continue to respond to the pandemic. The demand for the ECSF far exceeds funds available. The Dufferin Community Foundation alongside Community Foundations of Canada continues to advocate for broader recovery and stabilization support for the charitable sector.
The Dufferin Community Foundation is a charitable public foundation created by and for the people of Dufferin. We encourage endowment building and facilitate philanthropic partnerships within Dufferin – today and for future generations. We support the people who live and work here through grants to community projects run by charitable organizations.
