Another kick at the can against littering

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

This type of letter has appeared before in The Creemore Echo, Creemore Star and even in a Creemore paper of the 1890s referring to Creemore’s main street.

Here goes another “kick at the can.”

On these lovely fall days I go walking on Country Road 9 and Riverside Drive west of Creemore.

I carry a plastic grocery bag and pick up garbage as I go. I sometimes fill it in one kilometre but more often I fill the bag in half a kilometre, just on one side of the road.

I pick up plastic water bottles, plastic pop bottles, pop cans, beer cans (obviously lots of drinking and driving), candy wrappers, clear plastic food containers, foam food containers, old flower pots, papers, cigarette packages, plastic bags, used diapers, half eaten pizza, take-away coffee cups and lids and a box of Tim Hortons doughnuts.

Right now there is a child’s car seat sitting in the ditch not far up the road.

If you are inclined to throw your garbage out the window, please take it home. It will help keep our beautiful countryside looking the way it should.

Helen Blackburn,

Creemore.
