If majority doesn’t want windmills, stop the debate

Just because Toronto has an active airport one kilometre away from the CN Tower doesn’t mean that it’s safe. I used to fly into Hong Kong, before they created the new super airport out into the ocean. You would fly in between condominiums easily looking into the windows. I was scared to death every time.

Similarly, just because Toronto needs energy, or other places in the world have windmills, doesn’t mean it suits us here in Clearview and that we should simply do what everyone else thinks we should.

One of the reasons I came here 10 years ago, was because of the natural beauty of the escarpment and the dramatic natural views of Georgian Bay. It completely dumbfounds me that so many of us have our livelihoods tied to tourism in this area and yet other people are willing to destroy that for us with dozens of unsightly windmills. Anyone who drives along Highway 124 between Singhampton and Shelburne will see just how beautiful windmills are!

Let’s make this easy. Let’s have a plebiscite on the issue. If the majority of us believe that Clearview Township is a better place to live without the windmills, then let’s stop the debate. Let’s stop all of the backroom deals with the large corporations and the province. Shouldn’t we have the right to choose the type of community we want to live in and not feel badgered by special interests?

Greg and Coreen McNally,

Duntroon.
