Humans are the biggest threat to birds

Editor:
I was just talking with my partner about how misinformation works by constant repetition, and then I see your headline, “Cats are the biggest threat to birds”.
The research behind this claim is bogus and has been refuted many times. And yet it still gets repeated, and now even makes its way into government reports.
In his letter to the editor, Ray Jackson did not name his source for the “previously researched facts for Canada”, but I am willing to bet that this source is part of the same crazy chain of misinformation.
It is obvious that humans are the biggest threat to birds.  All of the “previously researched facts” related to us about bird deaths, from wind turbines to power lines, collisions with buildings and vehicles, etc., these are all things that humans are responsible for, including companion animals like cats.
Humans are the biggest threat to birds. If we want more birds, all we have to do is try and mitigate the damages from human threats and help them out with habitat, food, nesting, etc. Look at our wild turkey population now. They were all killed off, have just recently been re-introduced, and now the local turkey population is thriving.
Humans are the biggest threat to birds. Let’s be adults and accept our shared responsibility and work on positive plans and actions for growing our bird populations… and stop acting like children by blaming cats!

Mulmur.
