Library decision raises questions
Editor:
Having just read your article on the new library brings up more questions than answers. The whole thing reminds me of a Rocky and Bullwinkle episode where Rocky says, “Watch me pull a rabbit out my hat”.
The ‘proposed’ budget of $3,815,000 was announced prior to opting for the smaller 6,800 square foot building.
How much has been fundraised so far? Far short of their optimistic $250,000?
Existing or “anticipated’ (taxpayer funded) reserves just starting now?
In light of other recent projects and acquisitions all running 16-50 per cent over budget (Avening Hall, Elm Street Bridge, $100,000-plus. Fire Hall pumper $60,000 over estimate $100,000 for drop-in centre (30 per cent over) in Stayner etc. etc.)
What is the final cost?
You also quoted figures for the Perry Street property costs of $451,145 (100 per cent financed by taxpayers). Does that include demolition of existing house on the property or weekly lawn-cutting by a third party contractor?
When will real accountability be found by Clearview council and staff?
David Witzke,
