Donation doesn’t pass smell test
Editor:
After watching all the brouhaha in House of Commons QP about Chinese billionaires donating $1million to Justin Trudeau’s “Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation”… I wonder if this federal pay to play ploy has percolated to the municipal level?
Seeing Deputy Mayor Barry Burton accept a $15,000 cheque from Clearview Aviation Commerce Centre spokesperson Paul Bonwick doesn’t pass the ethical “smell test’. How convenient that after his presentation to Collingwood council and subsequent failure, that this happened.
FYI, for your readership, Bonwick is former Liberal MP and brother of Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper.
On a second subject… reading minutes of the Nov. 28 council meeting, Edward Henley states Industrial lands are not financed to the tune of $2.5M by taxpayers… but by landowners (taxpayers) forced to pay for this financial fiasco. Odd how Steer says it’s not compatible with Fleshcon, Darpak et al in that area. And now OMB is being used to fight their new site.
Again how much is the taxpayer on the hook for legal fees?
Just my two cents,
David Witzke,
Clearview.
