Off to the races, municipal incumbents file
Municipal election nominations opened Tuesday and three people have already filed their paperwork.
Incumbents Thom Paterson (for Ward 5, Creemore and Avening), Robert Walker (for Ward 3, Stayner) and Connie Leishman (Ward 6, Sunnidale Corners) have all put their names in.
The nomination period, which has been shortened this time around from 37 weeks to 13 weeks, opened May 1.
The filing deadline is 2 p.m. on July 27.
Candidates have to gather 25 signatures from eligible voters who support their nomination.
There is also a requirement for third party advertisers to register with the municipality. The policy refers to individuals, corporations and unions that are advertising a position, either for or against a specific candidate. Third party advertising does not include “issue based” messaging promoted by community groups.
Candidate information is available at town hall in Stayner and online at clearviewclerk.ca/election.
Election Day is Oct. 22 and the new term of council begins on Dec. 1.
