Motorcycles and rumblings on parts

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

Imagine my surprise to see the letter to the editor from Evelyn Downie in the July 24th issue of The Creemore Echo.   As a father of three teenagers who have come to love Creemore – and all the area and people have to offer – making sense of this letter and the fact that it was published prompted some interesting family dialogue.
It appears that it is acceptable for certain people to make sexist comments about motorcyclists and their “small manly parts”. Really?? This raises several interesting questions to say the least. Would this letter have been published had a male reader made a similar comment about women visitors to Creemore, whether on motorcycles, bicycles or cars?  I think we all know the answer to that question.
Did anyone pause to consider the local merchants perspective on this rumbling menace. They bring  vibrancy and much needed economic pulse to our great community. In addition, it might be good for Evelyn to say hi to a few. They are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.
In an era that strives to eradicate hate and sexism, this published letter does exactly the opposite. I expect more from my friends at The Creemore Echo and hope that in the future more consideration will be given before this kind of nonsense is published.
Joe Prosperi,
Creemore
