Cyclists show lack of respect for mourners

Editor:

I have always respected bikers on the roads wherever I travel and give them a wide berth as I have a family member that bikes a lot but not so much in this area.

I lost some of that respect on Saturday in front of the funeral parlour. As a coffin was being placed in the hearse, two bikers came down the main street flat out, there was a fairly large gathering behind the hearse and some were close to the edge of the street including myself.

I could feel the wind off these dudes. They had no respect for the speed limit or for the fact a funeral was still in progress. I recall back in the day when cars would pull over when a hearse was approaching and men would take their hats off. Maybe these guys were in a hurry to get a seat at the Old Mill or a free beer sample at the brewery. It upset me as it happened to be my wife being put in the hearse.

Roger Zeggil,

Stayner.
