Peer support available to support addiction, mental health

 In Letters, Opinion

Editor:

I am the board chair at Simcoe Peer Support for Mental Health and Addictions (SPS), a non- profit organization which provides peer support and counselling to people with mental health and/ or addiction issues. SPS saves lives and helps individuals reintegrate into society.

I read the recent article in The Echo about deaths from street drug use and the ongoing drug crisis in Simcoe and thought I should write to raise awareness of SPS’s services. SPS has three full-time staff. Both individual and group counselling are available at no charge. There is no wait time and no medical referral is required.

SPS is funded by a combination of government funding and donations. Your donations will help us continue our work of saving and rebuilding the lives of those afflicted with mental health and addiction issues. SPS is located in Collingwood and can be contacted at 1-705-444-1844.

Rick Schubert,

Avening.
