Dufferin Hi-Land BTC recruits volunteers

The Dufferin Hi-Land Bruce Trail Club (BTC) is looking to grow its board and volunteer base in order to fill specific positions as it looks ahead to its 60th anniversary next year. The volunteer group, which looks after 56.3 kilometres of trails between Mono Centre and Lavender, is planning to celebrate the milestone with special events and activities. The board is in need of people to oversee membership and recruitment; events and social activities; diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging; trail maintenance coordination; communications; and a vice-president to support the president but not necessarily be required to succeed to the position.

BTC, one of Ontario’s largest land trusts and member-driven volunteer organization, looks after 1,400 kilometres of trail that crosses federal, provincial, private and conservation areas to form an access corridor to the Niagara Escarpment and all of its wonders.

“It’s incredible that we have it,” said director Jill Johnson. “There’s always a drive to secure the trail that we have so that we aren’t sending hikers out onto the road because part of the trail is inaccessible.”

She said landowner relations are an important part of the team’s work.

Anyone interested in joining the board is asked to contact nominations@ dufferinbrucetrailclub.org.
