Council isn’t seeing the big picture
Editor:
I read with interest your article about Brenna Lattimore’s garden, and was aware of Mayor Doug Measures and council’s incredulous and rude treatment of Brenna and her innovative and quite beautiful front yard.
Council isn’t seeing the big picture here nor is it aware or understands the realities of bird and insect decline in Canada.
Years ago all summer a car’s windshield was covered with bug splatter, but not today, ask yourself where did they go?
I think front yard gardens are the future. Take Buffalo, NY for example. It has an annual Garden Walk festival where over 1,000 residents turn there front yards into beautiful gardens, people come from far and wide to walk the streets of Buffalo every July to enjoy small imaginative and beautiful front yard gardens.
In Mississauga there is a Blooming Boulevards program that actually encourages people to plant pollinator plants on the boulevards.
Council needs to get on board the train before they’re left at the station.
