‘Ice’ rink coming to Village Green

 In News

Creemore Village Green will be transformed into a skating rink over the holidays.

The Creemore Community Foundation and Bank Café are co- sponsoring a synthetic ice rink that will cover the main square.

The modular interlocking synthetic ice will be installed on Dec. 23 and the rink will remain open until Jan. 3.

“This is part of our four-season activation, which is a goal of the foundation, to keep the community connected and support the localbusinesses through the colder, darker months,” said park manager Jeremy Mantesso.

The panels can be adjusted to the terrain, making it ideal for the park. The rink is not at the mercy of rising temperatures and requires no maintenance, other than shovelling.

“If the community really likes it and we see a lot of people using it, the foundation will purchase the equipment,” said Mantesso.

He said if the Village Green were to own the equipment it could be used for events throughout the year and the panels could be made into different configurations to suit different uses.

Special event are planned for Dec. 23, when the fires will be lit in the chimineas and the Village Green will have s’mores on offer along with hot chocolate provided by Bank Café; Dec. 28, when Village Green will partner with Chin Chin for ‘drinks in the park’; and a glow party on Jan. 3, with glow sticks provided.

Plans are in the works to offer weekly mobile skate sharpening on site.
