At its March meeting, 100 Men Who Care Southern Georgian Bay chose to support the First Presbyterian Church Collingwood, Love Your Neighbour campaign by raising some $12,000 to assist the program.

The First Presbyterian Church in Collingwood has a long history of supporting the Collingwood community. One of its currently operating programs is a community outreach program called Love Your Neighbour, a program designed to provide food and goods to those financially challenged in the Collingwood community. Among other things, the program provides a monthly dinner to some 85 guests; delivers weekly hampers to financially challenged single parents and families consisting of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, milk and other staples; and provides, at the beginning of each school year, backpacks loaded with school supplies including gift cards for new shoes, to deserving public- school aged children.

This program is supported by a core group of some 50 volunteers and comes at no cost to those who benefit from them.

“We are pleased to support the Love Your Neighbour program, particularly at a time when financial challenges are becoming even greater given current economic uncertainties,” said leadership team member David Green. “This donation will provide a greater level of certainty to the support of the Love your Neighbour program and will allow the First Presbyterian Church to continue to maximize the help it can provide to the Collingwood community.

“We are grateful for the support from the 100 Men Who Care Southern Georgian Bay. The generosity from this group of caring men is so wonderful for our community and the charities they support,” said Ron Monette of First Presbyterian Church.

The Southern Georgian Bay area is one of the fastest growing areas in Canada, and that growth brings with it increasing needs for support of local community causes and non-profit organizations. 100 Men Who Care Southern Georgian Bay seeks to provide some of that support by bringing together 100 or more men to each contribute $100 at each of its four yearly meetings to a local charity chosen by the membership at each meeting. A small donation by many gives 100 Men Who Care Southern Georgian Bay the opportunity to make a real impact to the local charities it supports.
