Osburn, Philip Charles

 In Obituaries

It is with deep sadness and a complexity of emotions that we announce the passing of Philip Charles OSBURN at the age of 80 in Cambridge, Ontario.

Phil will be remembered for many things, among them his fun sense of humour and for often being late.

Phil grew up in Duntroon, Ontario and felt a deep connection and sense of home there. When talking about the farm he grew up on, there was always a tenderness in his voice and a kind of yearning in his manner. Phil could talk at length about the neighbours and relatives and how everyone was so connected. In recent years he took time to research the family history and would share his findings with anyone who was interested.

Phil spent some of his high school years at Niagara Christian Collegiate. He made many lifelong friends there and truly enjoyed feeling connected to the regional community of the Brethren In Christ Church.

More recently, Phil was a long-time member of the Cambridge Historical Society as historical preservation was one of his passions.

As an architect, Phil was involved in many projects but came to specialize in Church builds, nursing homes and institutional renovations across Ontario. He was most proud of a large church project on Montreal and of the renovation of a turn of the century stone church in Paris, Ontario.

Phil also designed and built the Sixth Line Church in Stayner, which will host him one last time for his funeral. He will be laid to rest at the cemetery there, tucked in close to the home he dearly loved.

Phil is survived by his children Rob (Natalja), Kate, and Laura (Johan); by his siblings Lynda and Dana (Sue); by his many nieces and nephews; by his ex-wife Carol; and by many, many friends. To his own great sadness, Phil was predeceased by his only grandson Charlie, his mother Lila, his father Bob, his sister Sandy Main, his brother-in-law James Main, his brother-in-law Paul Anderson and infant brother Timothy.

Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Sixth Line Church, Stayner on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 1 o’clock. If desired, a donation in Phil’s memory may be made to Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis. To sign Phil’s Book of Memories, please visit www.carruthersdavidson.com
