13U wins SSMBA Pool B championships

The New Lowell Minor Baseball 13U House League Team completed their playoff journey on with a 11- 10 walk off win in Wasaga Beach during the South Simcoe Minor Baseball Association’s (SSMBA) Pool B Championship in a spirited highly contested game versus TNT Gold.

The journey started in Bradford with a come-from- behind victory over Bradford Team 2 with a score of 15-9. Then on August 16, the 13U Knights continued with their playoff journey against Midland Team 1. Being down 5-1 after two innings, the Knights rallied to tie the game 5-5. The team secured a win with four different pitchers demonstrating stellar performances during a very hot day, to squeak out a 8-7 win over a very tough opponent.

The Knights then faced a red-hot Ivy 13U team on August 17 that owned a record of 2-0 wins/losses and had defeated TNT Gold and Midland Team 1. The Knights were in a back-and-forth affair with Ivy and were down 12-10 going into the bottom of the last inning. The 13U team utilized six pitchers, inking out a walk-off 13-12 win against a very formidable opponent in Ivy on an infield hit scoring the runner from third. With this win, the Knights were off to the finals to face the winner of TNT Gold versus Ivy with their 3-0 playoff record.

With their perfect playoff record heading into the finals, the Knights were facing another hot team in the TNT Gold.

The score was even the entire game until the last inning, at 9-9. At the beginning of the last inning TNT

Gold went up 10-9. The Knights scored two runs in their half of the inning that led to their second straight walk-off win, winning 11-10 in a fascinating well attended game to become Pool B champions.

Over the playoff tournament the Knights spread out the pitching duties, using 10 different pitchers to secure the victories.

The coach would like to thank the assistant coaches Corey Cox, Colin Penwarden, Derek and Jenny Nash for their efforts and time. Would also like to thank the parents who score kept and pitch counted. To the players, thank you for your dedication and effortas you showed vast improvement over the season. It was a great season.
