Dennis, Peter
Dennis, Peter
May 13, 1943 – Aug. 20, 2025
Peter Dennis is deeply missed by his wife Paulette, sister Julie Dennis, niece Kris Mancuso, children Martine and Mark, (Laura), and grandchildren, Logan Ingold, Jack and Riley Dennis.
His was a life of creativity: plein-air painting as a youth in the islands of Georgian Bay on summer canoe trips; graduation from the Ontario College of Art (OCA) in industrial design, 1966; designing and fabricating many commercial installations during Toronto’s building boom of the ’70s and ’80s; to a teaching career at Georgian College.
In 1977, Peter accepted a teaching exchange with a sculptor in Northampton, England. The family packed up and flew off for a year of adventure: travelling around Great Britain for the summer of 1977 by car, teaching a whole new curriculum for the academic year in Northampton, and touring France and Italy with backpacks and two children, aged five and seven, the following summer. The family returned to Canada and Peter resumed his teaching at Georgian College.
While in England, Peter became inspired by the growing trends in solar heating and began to design a passive solar house, which was completed in 1980. In 2006, Peter and Paulette moved to Collingwood so Peter could pursue his own personal creativity. He had two solo exhibitions of intricate moveable automata at the Noisy River Gallery in Creemore and at the Double Door Gallery in Anton Mills. His life was filled with creativity and kindness, and he will be missed by all who knew him and deeply mourned by his family.
A celebration of life will be announced in the near future. Friends may visit Peter’s online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
